Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an age old healing practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine in which this needles are placed at specific points in the body. The Acupuncture meridians of Traditional Chinese Medicine has been developed over thousands of years through  deep inquiry and observation of the whole person as well as their environment and experiences. The information provided by the patient develops a unique treatment formula of acupuncture points, massage, cupping and moxabustion.

Cupping

Cupping involves the application of glass or plastic cups which adhere to the body through the use of a pump or by heat. You do not feel the heat, but you will feel the cup pull up on the skin.  The cups are used over certain acupuncture points and/or over areas of pain.

Once the cups are attached, they are generally left on for 5-15 minutes and are removed by simply pressing down on the skin and letting the air out.  They do leave a mark on the body which lasts for about 4-10 days depending on the condition.  The mark is very useful as a diagnostic tool - the darker the mark, the more stagnation there is in the muscles.  As the marks lighten through progressive treatments, it is a sign that the underlying conditions are improving.

MOXABUSTION

Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese medicine technique that involves the burning of mugwort, a small, spongy herb, to promote healing with acupuncture. The purpose of moxibustion, as with most forms of traditional Chinese medicine, is to strengthen the blood, stimulate the flow of qi.

Moxibustion is used on people who have a cold or stagnant condition. The practice expels cold and warms the meridians, which leads to smoother flow of blood and qi. In Western medicine, moxibustion has been used to turn breech babies into a normal head-down position prior to childbirth.
